Workplace Needs Assessments

A workplace dyslexia needs assessment identifies the adjustments and support necessary to help employees with dyslexia perform effectively, in line with the Equality Act 2010.

  • Conducted by a qualified specialist, the assessment evaluates the employee's strengths, challenges, and experiences in the workplace.

  • Recommendations may include assistive technology, adjustments to work processes, or other accommodations.

  • A comprehensive report provides tailored suggestions to help employers meet legal obligations and improve employee well-being and productivity.

By addressing the specific needs of employees with dyslexia, this assessment promotes inclusivity and ensures compliance with UK employment law.

How it Works

Steps to Follow for a Workplace Needs Assessment

  1. Speak to your employer: Begin by informing your employer of your intent to apply for a workplace needs assessment. It's important to schedule a time to discuss this and explain how the process will benefit both you and the organisation.

  2. Submit your application: There are various providers you can approach, depending on your specific needs. For instance, individuals with dyslexia may consider organisations like the British Dyslexia Association (BDA) or similar. Keep in mind that each provider may have a slightly different application process.

  3. Schedule the assessment: Once your application is accepted, arrange a suitable date and time for the assessment. Make sure to set aside time to prepare beforehand.

  4. Attend the assessment: The assessment can be conducted either remotely via Zoom or Teams, or in some cases, in person. Typically, the process takes between 1 to 2 hours, depending on the scope of the review.

  5. Receive your report: A detailed workplace needs assessment report will be provided to both you and your employer within a few weeks following the assessment. This will include tailored recommendations to support your working environment.

Booking a Workplace Needs Assessment

  6. Review the report and recommendations with your employer or employee to implement the necessary adjustments.
